Welcome to 2. Bearsted Area Guide

The village of Bearsted is a charming and picturesque community just 3.2 miles east of central Maidstone. It boasts some lovely features including a central green where the local cricket team play, a tennis club, bowls club, and both a Scout group (1st Bearsted The Scarlet Pimpernels, founded 1912) and a Guide unit. Other establishments include a Rifle Club and The Bearsted and Thurnham Club, a private members' club, established in 1906, which overlooks the village green, plus various amenities and public houses including The Bell Inn.

The village of itself dates back many centuries in the history books but, oddly, when the Domesday book was compiled, it was not included. This has invited much speculation over the years and is still a topic of intrigue and puzzlement for historians! More than one source suggests that Bearsted was included as part of Leeds and Leeds Castle – which makes sense - but without any records to support the idea, it remains a theory only.

Bearsted Woodland Trust

Bearsted Woodland Trust (BWT) protects and maintains 26 acres of woodland and meadow, restoring and enhancing a natural habitat for animals and plants and providing a place of recreation for visitors. There are a wide variety of English native trees, information boards to help identify wildlife and special gates and gentle paths for wheelchairs, baby buggies or electric scooters. Visitors are asked to respect the habitat and wildlife and to contact BWT if they witness incidents where this is not the case.

The Bell Inn

If you have ever wanted to find a local pub that offers great atmosphere, wonderful food and drink along with a variety of entertainment, then the Bell Inn, aims to provide you with the perfect answer. It is a family run business with years of experience within the hospitality sector. Nigel and his team will be the most familiar faces you will see at The Bell. Their intention is to make the Bell a family run traditional pub with good old-fashioned values built on integrity and with an eye for quality.
